FORMALISM — Introducing a new handcrafted series of artworks, created as a celebration of colour, shape and form.
Formalism in art focuses on how an artwork looks and how it's made, rather than the story it tells, or its connection to the real world. As an illustrator, I often get caught in the narrative of my artworks, so this emphasis on form has been really refreshing being able to instead focus on my handcrafted process, taking my time to develop the layers and an interesting limited palette, as well as playing with how the various graphic elements interact.
"Formalism describes the critical position that the most important aspect of a work of art is its form the way it is made and its purely visual aspects  rather than its narrative content or its relationship to the visible world."
I'm excited to share that I've also developed these vibrant designs into a limited edition range of archival quality giclée prints and greeting cards! See more in my online shop
